FAQ

The questions we're asked most.

Funerals, weddings, church, sport, school and community events — the answers below cover all of them. If yours isn't here, email us; a real person answers, and usually quickly.

Before you book

What equipment do I need?

A smartphone, something steady to stand it on at about head height, a wall charger, and a connection with enough upload speed. Most people already have all of it.

What's the difference between Self-Drive and Hands-Free?

Hands-Free means we run it. We start the stream remotely at your booked start time and monitor it throughout — signal, battery, picture — and step in if something drops. It runs for the duration you booked. Nobody at the venue has to touch anything once the phone is mounted.

Self-Drive means you press record when things begin and stop it at the end. Everything else — the private page, the recording, the hosting, the download — is handled exactly the same way.

Hands-Free is the one to pick when nobody present should have a job to do — a funeral, or any occasion where the people there are participants rather than crew.

How good does my internet need to be?

Upload speed is what matters, not download. Roughly:

  • 6 Mbps or more — full HD
  • 4 to 6 Mbps — 720p, sharp on any normal screen
  • 2.5 to 4 Mbps — workable, we use a lighter setting
  • Under 2.5 Mbps — not enough; mobile data is usually the answer

There's a speed test built into your pre-stream checklist that measures upload specifically. Run it standing where the camera will be, on the network you'll use on the day.

How long is a booking?

Two lengths. 60 minutes suits a graveside, a committal or a short ceremony. 90 minutes covers a full chapel service, a wedding, a church service or a match with room to spare, and is what most people choose.

If you need longer, extra time is $30 per additional 30 minutes and can be added when you book.

Can you stream outdoors, with no power and no wifi?

Yes — gravesides, park weddings and sporting grounds are all normal bookings for us. It runs on mobile data, and a power bank covers a 60-minute booking comfortably. The things to watch outdoors are wind on the microphone and getting the tripod steady on soft ground.

How much notice do you need?

As little as you need. Funerals often come together in a couple of days and we're set up for that; a wedding or a season of matches you might book months out. Either way, book as soon as the time and place are confirmed — the sooner we have it, the more time you have to test the connection at the venue, which is the one thing worth not rushing.

Can you stream two events at the same time?

Not on a single plan or booking — each one covers one stream at a time. Two services in overlapping windows needs a second concurrent slot.

This catches people out, so we'd rather say it early than have you discover it on the morning — two chapels running at once, or three courts on a Saturday. If your week regularly has events close together, tell us what a busy day looks like and we'll size it correctly up front.

Setting up

Do I need to know anything technical?

No. Your setup link configures the app in a single tap — there's nothing to type in, no addresses or keys to copy. From there a checklist walks you through mounting the phone, testing the connection and the few settings that matter.

What app is it, and where do I get it?

A free broadcasting app from the phone's app store. Your setup link tells you which one and configures it for your booking automatically once it's installed.

Can I test everything beforehand?

Yes, and please do. The speed test can be run as often as you like from the checklist, and the results are saved against your booking so we can see them too. If a number looks marginal we'd rather know days ahead than on the morning.

What if I set it up wrong?

On Hands-Free we can see your checklist and your connection test before the day, so if something's missing we'll contact you. The one item we can't fix from here is the remote-control permission in the app — without it we're unable to start your stream, so it's flagged clearly on the checklist.

On the day

What happens if the connection drops partway through?

Two things. The stream reconnects by itself when the connection returns, so viewers see a pause rather than an ending. And the phone records its own full-quality copy locally the whole time, independent of the internet — so even a total outage doesn't cost you the recording.

On Hands-Free we're alerted when a feed drops and we act on it while it's still running.

What if it starts late?

Worth understanding properly, because the answer isn't "we'll wait".

Your stream runs to the clock, not to the room. It goes live a couple of minutes before your booked start time and runs for the duration you booked, plus a short grace period at the end. We don't watch the room and decide when to begin — nothing here can see what's happening in there.

So a late start eats into the end of your window. Fifteen minutes late on a 90-minute booking means the last few minutes may not be covered.

The fix is to book the start a little earlier than the advertised time. An empty room at the top of the stream costs nothing; a stream that stops before the end is the one thing we can't undo afterwards. If things routinely run late where you are, add extra time when you book.

What if it runs over the booked time?

If you know in advance, add extra time when you book — $30 per 30 minutes is much cheaper than the alternative. If something unexpectedly runs long, contact us; we'd rather sort it out than have a stream cut off before the end.

What if the phone rings?

On many phones an incoming call takes over the camera and interrupts the stream. Turning on Do Not Disturb prevents it, and it's on the checklist for exactly this reason. Better still, use a phone nobody will be ringing that day.

When does the stream stop?

At the end of the duration you booked, plus a short grace period — not when the event finishes. Nothing here can tell that the room has emptied.

In practice that means a stream may keep running after everyone has left. It costs you nothing and the recording is trimmed of nothing, but it's worth knowing rather than wondering why it's still going.

Can we finish early?

Yes, two ways. Stop recording on the phone — on Self-Drive that's how you end it anyway, and on Hands-Free it works just as well. Or ask us and we'll end it from here, which also publishes the recording and frees the slot straight away.

Either way the recording is already captured, so finishing early costs you nothing.

Watching

How do people watch?

You get a private link and a password to share with whoever you choose. It opens in any browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV — there's no app to install and no account to create, which matters when you're sending it to elderly relatives.

Is it public? Could a stranger find it?

No. The page is password-protected, the link is unguessable, and it's excluded from search engines. It's shared by you, to the people you send it to.

How many people can watch?

There's no limit you need to think about. Whether it's six people or six hundred, it's the same stream and the same price.

Can people watching leave a message?

Yes. There's a guest book on the viewing page where anyone watching can leave one — condolences, congratulations, or just that they were there.

Messages are private. They're not published on the page for other viewers to read. They're collected and given to whoever booked, to read when they're ready — which matters at a funeral, and is just as welcome after a wedding.

Can people be reminded when it's about to start?

Yes. Anyone visiting the page can ask to be reminded, and we'll email them an hour before and again five minutes before the service begins.

The sign-up closes shortly before the start, so nobody adds themselves at the last moment and misses the reminder anyway.

Afterwards

When can we watch it back?

Straight away. The recording is available on the same page as soon as the service finishes, so family in other time zones can watch within the hour rather than waiting days.

How long does the recording stay available?

30 days as standard, and we'll remind you before it expires so nothing disappears without warning.

If you'd like to keep it longer, you can extend it to 12 months for $49 at any point while it's still live.

Can we download and keep a copy?

Yes — and we'd encourage it, so you have it permanently regardless of any expiry. The download is available to the person who made the booking rather than to everyone with the viewing link, so you control who gets a copy.

What if something went wrong with the stream?

The phone records its own copy locally throughout, separately from the live stream. If the internet failed on the day, that recording is usually completely unaffected — we'll walk you through sending it to us and we'll put it up in place of the stream.

Payment & changes

How do I pay?

Online by card when you book. Funeral directors and organisations streaming regularly can be invoiced instead — talk to us.

Can I change the date?

Yes. As long as the stream hasn't run yet, a paid booking can be moved to a new date and keeps its full value — services get moved and we don't think you should lose what you paid because of it.

We don't refund a change of mind, but we won't leave you out of pocket either: get in touch and we'll reschedule it.

We stream regularly — is there a better rate?

Yes. Prepaid event packs bring the per-stream price down substantially, and the credits never expire. They suit anyone with a regular calendar — funeral homes, churches, schools and sporting clubs — and can be invoiced rather than paid by card.

One point worth being upfront about: we run one stream at a time as standard. If you have two events in the same window you'll need a second concurrent slot — tell us your typical week and we'll size it properly rather than letting you find out on the day.
